What do an area-wide WLAN and modern types of pharmaceuticals have in common? Losan Pharma is a modern pharma-technology company with two locations in South Baden. The business specializes in the development and the manufacturing of solid, semi-solid, and liquid medicinal products that are distributed in more than 70 countries. Besides sophisticated quality assurance and wide-spread expertise, the successful manufacturing of pharmaceuticals is supported by appropriate IT systems.

The highly innovative and modern orientation of Losan Pharma is not only found in the inside and the outside of their types of pharmaceuticals, but also in the appearance and the technical facilities of their subsidiaries. The newly opened administration building in Eschenbach in particular, is a statement towards sustainability and modern flexible working. The introduction of an area-wide WLAN supply is therefore considered a given for the optimization of many processes. NTS came with the required know-how in network design and for the implementation.

“The construction of the new administration building was a large project that had to be completed within a strict budget and a tight timeline. We soon realized that NTS is a reliable partner for us during this project too. Additionally, they are a perfect match for our mindset,” says Patric Ketterer, IT-Manager with Losan Pharma. “NTS provided us a scalable solution that supports our innovative business model and that can grow with us. In future, all new buildings will only be equipped with WLAN as well.”

WHEN SPARKS FLY

Already in 2021, Losan Pharma decided to redesign the existing network with NTS as a new partner. “To keep abreast with the growing network requirements, we decided to refresh parts of our facilities. Very quickly we discovered that in NTS we had found a partner with whom it would simply work. Reliable, uncomplicated, and on a technical top level. The Cisco refresh across the entire campus network and the core switches were the logical consequence,” reflects Patric Ketterer on the modernization of the Cisco Catalyst series.

While the old network was primarily designed for wired working places, the new one was devised for applications that are considerably more intrinsic. Especially a professional WLAN coverage was optimizing the reception quality, hence, the signal strength in all corners and areas. In addition, a security appliance protects the infrastructure from abuse and unauthorized access. In parallel, firewalls by Palo Alto Networks and a Cisco Enterprise Agreement are deployed.

CONVENIENCE IN THE DAILY NETWORK ROUTINE

Cisco DNA Center supplies valuable insights into the daily network routine. A lot of data is presented from the installed network onto a central dashboard in real time. “By this complete overview of all network components, a lot of work is taken from us. Possible bottlenecks are detected before they arise. For example, you can see early enough via the monitoring when an access point fails,” substantiates Ketterer the advantages of monitoring.

FUN AS A SERVICE

“We appreciate straightforward, short routes. It’s simply fun to work together. We don’t experience this with any other service provider in that manner,” enthuses Patric Ketterer about the collaboration at eye level. Because the best technology is only as good as how well it is received and accepted by employees or users. Here as well, the expert in the area of pharma-technology has left nothing to chance.

“We were able to remove all fears of an area-wide WLAN from our employees. We started with viewing appointments in groups, with tests in all areas, from the staircase all the way to the last corner of the buildings. Now, flexibility, efficiency, and mobility speak for themselves, and you cannot imagine it being different.”
