GKN Aerospace

INTO THE FUTURE WITH HIGH-SPEED

With its 40 production locations across 5 continents, GKN Aerospace supplies more than 90% of international aircraft and engine manufacturers. For its networking needs, the company relies on Cisco SD-WAN from NTS.

Operating out of Bolzano, NTS Italy supports the world’s largest aerospace supplier. With 15,000 employees across 40 production locations in 12 countries, GKN Aerospace delivers advanced solutions to all major aircraft and engine manufacturers. Headquartered in Filton, UK, the company leverages modern technologies to enhance air traffic performance through cutting-edge airplane structures, engine systems, and specialty products.

By working closely with universities, research centers, suppliers, and customers, GKN Aerospace continues to drive the revolutionary development of new technologies. These innovations focus on improving efficiency while reducing costs, weight, and emissions. This commitment to innovation makes access to a global R&D network of diverse skills and expertise essential for the company’s progress.

COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT AND PERMANENTLY PRODUCTIVE

For the critical task of securely networking its globally distributed locations, GKN Aerospace turned to NTS Italy. The solution chosen was Cisco SD-WAN (Software-Defined Wide Area Network), an intelligent, efficient, and flexible system tailored to meet the needs of GKN’s decentralized operations.

The SD-WAN implementation aimed to reduce delays and costs while boosting efficiency. This solution, implemented across all five continents, had a unified goal for all 40 locations: to improve performance, increase speed, and enhance redundancy.

Thanks to SD-WAN, individual sites are no longer reliant on a single connection. This ensures smooth production even during a line failure. Additionally, the transition to SD-WAN became a catalyst for further initiatives, enabling GKN Aerospace to tackle and implement new advancements with greater speed and agility.
