Comfort Zone Bolzano

In a short interview, Territory Manager Matthias Ploner explains why passion is so important in IT, why security issues have become indispensable and why the climate in Bolzano is right in every respect.

You have been Territory Manager for NTS Italy since 2011. When did you passion for it start?

Matthias Ploner: I gained my first experience in the IT industry back in 1995, which also corresponds to what I do now. At that time, I worked as a technician with Cisco. I then obtained the Cisco CCIE certification in Milan and came back to South Tyrol in 2006. After a short stint with a service provider, I have been Territory Manager of the Bolzano site since 2011 – with an excellent team at my side.

What makes your team excellent?

MP: In the NTS team Bolzano it is especially about the team spirit. If the team works well together, then success is also very often assured. And what’s more, our employees here in Bolzano sustainably search for new solutions with our manufacturers. And they do so with enthusiasm and passion.

What does someone have to bring to the table to become part of the nts team in bolzano?

MP: You should always ask yourself whether you are curious enough about new technologies and willing to learn new things. We want new employees to have a great deal of desire and passion for acquiring new knowledge. Because only with this knowledge can we then go to the customer successfully.

Matthias Ploner: Under the spell of IT since 1995, passionate Territory Manager in Bolzano since 2011.

What is nts Italy’s stance on smart working?

MP: With NTS, I joined a company in 2011, where I was already able to work from home about 40 percent of the time. But not only from home, but also on a train or a car. Basically, anywhere where connectivity was available. Today, we see that it is very important for every team member to have a fixed workstation to which they can retreat in the office and still have the same equipment at home.

Security has been one of the main topics in it for a long time. is that justified?

MP: Yes, because nowadays IT has to be secure. Every talk with a client or a manufacturer includes the topic of data security. However, there is no such thing as 100 percent security, we have to admit that. But it depends on each individual, on how disciplined security processes are implemented. On the other hand, many manufacturers and many security specialists are coming to our aid and offering new solutions with very solid security processes. In my opinion, it is very important to rely on established security providers and implement their solutions.

How does sustainability fit in with IT?

MP: Six years ago, when I went to London for my master’s program, I was with a CO2 neutrality calculation in the finance department. At the time, I asked myself what that was all about. In 2018, three years later, I discussed with my team in Bolzano whether we should also define CO2 neutrality as a goal. That’s what we did, joined the Climate Alliance 2025 and have been climate neutral since 2019. If we want to leave our descendants at least an equally good world behind, we must all take these important steps together today.
