WELL INTERCONNECTED BY A CENTRALIZED DATA CENTER AND A FUTURE-ORIENTED UC SOLUTION
The Fachhochschule Kärnten, a university for applied sciences in the Austrian province of Carinthia with international orientation, offers approximately 30 Bachelor and Master degree programs in 4 study fields at 5 different locations. This decentralized structure requires special IT solutions. Thus, the central data center operates all services, which are provided from there via a powerful data network. The current 15 employees of the IT department are in charge of providing the best possible support to the users: from a secure operation of 365 days a year around-the-clock and the relevant user support to the software development of existing and new systems.
WITH NTS WE HAVE A RELIABLE PARTNER WITH STABILITY ON OUR SIDE. THE QUALIFICATION, THE PFOFESSIONALISM AND THE COMMITMENT OF THE EMPLOYEES IS VERY HIGH.
EXPANSION AND MODERNIZATION OF THE IT INFRASTRUCTURE
The Carinthia University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1995 in Spittal an der Drau. Back then, demands and requirements on IT were much less complex compared to today and a single internet connection was sufficient for the operation. The expansion to the locations Villach and Klagenfurt in the following years meant new challenges for the IT network: the locations had to be robustly networked, whereby the central administration was retained in Spittal. Already in this initial expansion stage, the university decided to cooperate with NTS and Cisco.
Since then, the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences and NTS have worked continuously on further developments and upgrades. Thus, in 2004 WLAN was set up in all locations and in 2012 the data center was equipped with a Cisco US and a Nexus infrastructure. More recently, another large project was completed successfully. Here, A1 was involved as a project partner as well: the existing telephone system was replaced by a modern communication system that better supports the activities across all different locations in 8 buildings and in 4 different cities. The solution is modern as well as being open for future developments and enables an integration of mobile devices as well as the incorporation of home offices.
In parallel with the implementation, NTS realized together with the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences comprehensive actions for information and introduction in order to give all employees the opportunities to use the new system optimally. Tamara Pirker, Head of the Study-Info-Center at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences states, “At all times, the NTS engineers have communicated with their contact persons on the same level and were able to explain complicated IT issues to non-engineers in a simple and understandable manner as well.”
