PRESENCE IN MORE THAN 53 COUNTRIES
The order of the Merciful Brothers (in German: Barmherzige Brüder) operates hospitals, care facilities, as well as social and other healthcare institutions on all continents. Together with roughly 53,000 full-time and about 7,000 voluntary workers, close to 1,200 friars, based on the believe of Christian hospitality, take care of sick and old people, persons with disability, dying persons, people with drug addiction, homeless people or children that are in need of help – regardless of their origin, faith, gender or their social status.
In the Austrian order province, that encompasses order institutions in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, the Merciful Brothers collaborate with approximately 7,600 employees on the principles of Saint John of God. A characteristic of the order is the constant quest for innovative answers to the present-day challenges in the health and social sectors.
The network components that were installed in the institutions of the Merciful Brothers until now, would have soon not met the challenges of a modern health care service provider. For instance, there were still switches without Power Over Ethernet (PoE) being used.
The requirement for a new, more robust network became more and more important. Therefore, it was decided to prepare a comprehensive specification sheet and to contact well-known suppliers for new network components as well as for the support of implementation and maintenance. Based on an internal assessment, Cisco was selected as the best possible option. During the decision making process with which partner the project would be realized, the head of the IT operation of the Austrian order province, Dr. Michael Georg Grasser, also laid emphasis on additional factors: ‘We attach great emphasis on the value-related connection and the high professional competence of a partner, whose experts need to come with a high certification level. Additionally we see a great advantage in the professional collaboration with partner companies that show a continuous, constant growth and that present themselves with an experienced team’.
ESPECIALLY DURING TIME SENSITIVE PHASES, THE PERFECT COLLABORATION BETWEEN CUSTOMER, NTS AND SUPPLIER PROVED ITSELF – WITH SMOOTH INTERFACES IN TECHNICAL MATTERS, IN COMMERCIAL ASPECTS AS WELL AS IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT, WE MANAGED TO IMPLEMENT THE PROJECT TOGETHER SUCCESSFULLY.
The appointment of NTS took place in July 2014. Especially in the health sector, the Merciful Brothers Austria placed great emphasis on an optimal migration time and the least downtime as possible per location. Thus, in less than 12 hours, all network components in all Austrian institutions were changes successfully. This was made possible by the sophisticated Cisco technology on one hand, as well as the thorough planning and collaboration of all persons concerned. On the other hand, all network components that had to be built, were tested and already configured upfront. For this purpose, NTS set up its own laboratory to which project members of the Merciful Brothers had access at any time as well.
